How to choose a photo vault for iPhone

A checklist for comparing access controls, storage, recovery, and pricing.

Start with the problem you need to solve

Apple’s Hidden album may be sufficient when you want selected photos out of the main library. A separate vault can be useful when you want dedicated private albums and an app-specific workflow. Decide whether you need local storage, synchronization, sharing, or support for files beyond photos.

Check what the lock actually does

A PIN screen and file encryption describe different controls. Read the developer’s security explanation and privacy policy rather than relying on a padlock icon. Ask what happens when the app closes, how access is recovered, and whether a device backup contains app data.

Test with sample photos first

Import a non-sensitive sample, open it, organize it, close the app, and reopen it. Try the recovery and export workflows that matter to you before committing important originals. Never test recovery by deleting your only copy.

Understand the offer

Check free limits, subscription renewal terms, restoration of purchases, and whether a lifetime offer is actually available. PhotoSafe is free to download with optional in-app purchases; the current in-app offer is the source of truth for price and availability.
