Forgot your photo vault PIN? What to check before resetting

Avoid destructive recovery attempts and distinguish vault access from restoring a purchase.

Pause before deleting anything

Do not delete the app, reset the phone, or follow a generic reset tutorial until you understand its effect on local data. Different vault apps have different recovery designs. A PIN reset in one product does not establish that another product can recover your images.

Check the correct app’s recovery guidance

Confirm the app name, developer, and installed version. Look for a PIN record in your own password manager and read the developer’s current help page. If an already-enabled biometric method still works, use the supported settings and help flow; do not assume it permits changing a forgotten PIN.

PhotoSafe’s recovery limit

PhotoSafe’s published FAQ states that your PIN cannot be recovered. Its app terms also explain that the developer cannot recover encrypted vault data after forgotten access or device loss. Support can explain supported behavior, but cannot promise to decrypt a vault for you.

Purchase restoration does not restore photos

Restoring an eligible Pro purchase concerns the entitlement associated with an Apple account. It does not reconstruct a forgotten vault PIN or recover deleted photo files. Keep those two tasks separate when asking for help.

Make future loss less likely

Store your PIN securely, keep separate safe copies of irreplaceable originals, and review device migration before retiring an old phone. Never send your PIN or private photos to someone claiming they need them to recover a vault.
