How to review app access to your iPhone photos

Review permissions, select only the images an app needs, and check what happens to imported copies.

Review access in Settings

Open Settings, then Privacy & Security, and review Photos access. The available choices depend on your iOS version and the app’s request. You can change permissions later; granting access once does not require leaving that choice unchanged forever.

Choose the narrowest useful permission

If selected-photo access is offered, choose only the images needed for the task. Some workflows use Apple’s system photo picker instead of requesting broad library access. Read the permission explanation and avoid granting full access merely to dismiss a prompt.

When an image is missing from an import

Check whether the app is allowed to see that image and whether the original is available on the device. Review the selected set or use the supported picker. Try a non-sensitive sample before changing permissions for your entire library.

Permission changes do not erase imported files

Revoking library access controls future access through that permission. It should not be treated as a command to delete copies already imported into another app or shared with another person. Review each app’s deletion and storage behavior separately.

Use the privacy report as another check

Apple’s App Privacy Report can show how apps use permissions and their network activity after you enable it. It is a useful review tool, but is not a complete security audit. PhotoSafe’s vault and optional website analytics are separate systems; neither requires sharing your PIN with a website.
